First settled in the early 1800s, Etobicoke was both a farming and industrial centre in the "Golden Horseshoe". Etobicoke grew up along the shores of Lake Ontario, and has some beautiful shoreline parks, many alongside the communities two major river systems, the Humber on the east and Etobicoke Creek to the west.

Etobicoke residents take a strong and active role in all levels of government and its administration. Once an independent municipality, it is now part of the City of Toronto.
